Gravel biking

Gravel Bikes

Along with disc brakes, the biggest buzz in road riding is around gravel bikes built for a variety of terrain (dirt roads, singletrack, etc.), not just pavement. These drop-bar machines tend to have longer wheelbases than a normal road bike, more upright positions, lower bottom brackets for stability, and clearance for wider tires. They’re being promoted as gravel bikes, adventure bikes, all-road or all-terrain bikes, and a host of other names.

We have some of the ideal terrain and tracks in some of the most spectacular scenery with some of the best weather here for gravel biking, join us here in Andalucia, southern Spain.

We can offer a programme of guided gravel bike rides, using our local knowledge to show you the best that this area, the Sierra Nevada, Andalucia, Spain can offer. Please remember we can be flexible regarding the duration of your stay, and arrival and departure dates and times to help you find the best flights. We use our unrivalled local knowledge to provide a customised holiday based on what you want,  with an emphasis on gravel bike riding. We also try and give our clients a feel for the area in terms of natural environment, history and culture.

Type of terrain

The area, the Sierra Nevada, Andalucia, Spain is without doubt a gravel biker’s paradise, with the best climate in Europe and offering appropriate trails, jeep tracks, forestry tracks up to 2000m, or testing rides up to the Pico Veleta Pass at 3400m.

Level of fitness required

Little off-road cycling experience is required, though a reasonable level of fitness is necessary due to the nature of the area.

Daily distances vary, normally somewhere between 35 to 60 km /day depending on the trip.

We will always attempt to tailor our routes to suit the requirements and abilities of our guests.

A typical riding day

We normally aim to be ready to begin the ride around 10.00 am. Some routes will begin in Orgiva, whilst other will involve vehicle support. The weekly programme can include a two day excursion, with an overnight stay.

Routes are planned to include photo and refreshment stops and we normally aim to return to Orgiva by 5.00 pm.

We can also include a guided night ride in your programme (we provide the lights).

Why guided rides

The Alpujarras has a myriad of trails, which are not well mapped. Our local knowledge ensures that you get to ride the best of these routes.

Our seven day programme does not start on a fixed day – we aim to be as flexible as possible about bookings so that we can create a programme that meets your needs. This also lets you take advantage of cheaper, mid-week flights.
